Are Dressmaking & Sewing the Same Thing?

In our courses, dressmaking refers to the construction of complete garments using commercial patterns. While the terms sewing and dressmaking are often used interchangeably, we use dressmaking to describe classes that focus on garment assembly, construction order, fit, and professional finishing — bringing individual sewing techniques together into a finished piece.
